This course provides a deep dive into OKD (Origin Kubernetes Distribution), the community-driven upstream of Red Hat OpenShift. Participants will gain hands-on experience in deploying, managing, and scaling Kubernetes-based applications using OKD’s robust container orchestration platform.

By the end of this course, teams will be well-equipped to leverage OKD for enterprise-grade Kubernetes deployments, ensuring high availability, security, and DevOps efficiency.

What Will You Learn?

  • ✔ Understand OKD architecture, components, and its relation to OpenShift.
  • ✔ Install, configure, and manage OKD clusters.
  • ✔ Deploy and manage containerized applications with OKD.
  • ✔ Automate application delivery using CI/CD pipelines in OKD.
  • ✔ Secure and monitor Kubernetes workloads effectively.
  • ✔ Integrate GitOps workflows for efficient team collaboration.

Course Curriculum

1. Introduction to OKD & Kubernetes Fundamentals
• Overview of OKD and its relationship with OpenShift. • Understanding Kubernetes core concepts (pods, deployments, services, namespaces). • Comparison of OKD vs. OpenShift vs. vanilla Kubernetes.

2. Setting Up an OKD Cluster
• Installing OKD on bare metal, AWS, Azure, and VMware. • Configuring OKD networking, storage, and authentication. • Managing multi-node cluster deployments.

3. Application Deployment & Scaling with OKD
• Deploying containerized applications with OKD templates and Helm charts. • Managing application scaling, rolling updates, and rollbacks. • Running stateful applications using Persistent Volumes (PV).

4. DevOps & CI/CD Pipelines with OKD
• Implementing GitOps with ArgoCD, Tekton, and Jenkins. • Automating deployments using OKD BuildConfig and ImageStreams. • Integrating CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub Actions, and Bitbucket.

5. Security, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) & Governance
• Implementing OKD security policies and RBAC permissions. • Securing container images with Open Policy Agent (OPA) & Pod Security Policies. • Managing multi-tenancy and network policies.

6. Monitoring, Logging & Troubleshooting in OKD
• Using Prometheus & Grafana for OKD cluster monitoring. • Centralized logging with Elasticsearch, Fluentd, and Kibana (EFK stack). • Troubleshooting cluster issues and application failures.

7. Advanced OKD Features & Best Practices
• Integrating Service Mesh (Istio) for microservices security. • Optimizing OKD for multi-cluster and hybrid cloud environments. • Scaling OKD workloads dynamically with autoscalers.
